About the Art Library - Artothek

The Art Library lends all types of visual works of art. The objects available for loan can be divided into the categories of painting, photography, graphic reproduction, objects, sculpture, sketching et cetera.

The Art Library is an institution of the Kulturamt (Cultural Office) of the city of Wiesbaden in which people interested in art can borrow original works. It is home to some of the paintings, graphics, objects and sculptures which were purchased over many years and are part of the extensive art collections of the city.

These include works by local artists and those whose work is represented in Wiesbaden galleries and the exhibitions of the art associations as well as works from private collections and bequeathed estates among others. Prominent artists working regionally and internationally are represented as are the young and unknown.

The exhibits can be lent to private individuals, institutions, companies and surgeries for a fee. The Art Library team will be happy to help in selecting from the extensive range of different artistic styles and motifs. The Art Library (Artothek) in the Kunsthaus at Schulberg 10 in Wiesbaden is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on every first Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Together with the internet editorial team, the Kulturamt has designed the internet presentation of the Art Library and assembled a picture database that currently contains approx. 1,000 works and is being extended on a constant basis. It enables those interested in art to browse the collections in the Art Library, and to query the availability of and reserve specific works of art.

We have this fulfilled the wish expressed so often by customers who can now inform themselves about the varied collection from the comfort of their own home, says City Councillor and Head of Department for Culture, Rose-Lore Scholz. We also want to reach people who did not know about the institution to date or who have not found the Art Library yet.
