Worth knowing

Aside from culture, sport is also a big part of life in Klagenfurt. Its in-town ski area is one of a kind and is especially popular with snowboarders and freestylers in the winter.

Tourism is one of the twin town’s most important economic sectors. The unspoilt scenery, Wörthersee with its exceptional water quality, and a varied spectrum of events, including large events particularly for young visitors, make Klagenfurt a very popular destination. Two examples: every year, the world’s best beach volleyball teams congregate in Klagenfurt for Grand Slam tournaments that draw around 100,000 visitors. Klagenfurt also hosts the Kärnten "Ironman Austria", where around 2,000 athletes compete in swimming, running, and biking events cheered on by about 100,000 spectators.

The city has a lot to offer for sports fans and culture lovers alike. The Wörthersee is a Mecca for water sports enthusiasts; there is a network of around 160 kilometres of well-kept hiking trails, a skater park, and a half-marathon route for joggers.
