Montreux (Switzerland)

The fraternal union of Wiesbaden and the Swiss city of Montreux was founded in 1953 and has since been enlivened by student exchanges and sporting events.

In September 1952, a general meeting of the European Agricultural Association was held in Wiesbaden, with representatives of the Council of European Municipalities in attendance. Their goal was to promote friendly relationships between European countries. The council’s general secretary conveyed a request by the Swiss town of Montreux to enter into a fraternal union (jumelage) with Wiesbaden.

Wiesbaden made contact with Montreux, and a delegation led by deputy mayor Kluge and the head of the city council Dr. Mix travelled to the brotherhood ceremony on October 7th, 1953. This twinning focuses on regular student exchanges, sporting events, and mutual visits among associations.
