International May Theatre Festival
April 26th to May 28th, 2017
Every year, the International May Theatre Festival is the cultural highlight in the City of Wiesbaden. Theatre companies and ensembles from around the world will meet in May 2017 following an invitation by artistic director Uwe Eric Laufenberg. Pieces from the baroque and modern eras, opera, dance, and drama, guest performances and evening galas, whether from Vienna or Berlin, from Sweden or China – the Hessian State Theatre will present the most fascinating productions and artists.
This year's International May Theatre Festival will focus on "The Ring of the Nibelung", Wagner's four-part masterpiece: directed by Uwe Eric Laufenberg, two entire cycles will be put on stage. A Wagner gala concert, conducted by Patrick Lange, will mark the grand opening on April 30th. Founded as the "Emperor's Festival" by Emperor Wilhelm II in 1896, the International May Theatre Festival is the second oldest theatre festival in Germany after the one in Bayreuth.
