The Waters of the Mattiaci
"Sunt et Mattiaci in Germania fontes calidi tran Rhenum" - The Romans were the first to recognise Wiesbaden’s special qualities and knew very well how to use the thermal water for treatments and their well-being. The 26 hot springs have made the city famous. Wiesbaden was preceded by a Roman settlement established in 120 AD, but it was in the 19th century that it was discovered as a desirable destination by European nobility and became an internationally acclaimed spa. Today, the hot springs still assume an important role in a city whose numerous stories related to the guests attracted to the baths and water therapies are still fascinating to hear.
