Rheingau District

The development of the Rheingau District began shortly before the turn of the century and was completed in 1910. The streets were put in between 1902 and 1906. Despite how densely this district was built, it remains one of Wiesbaden's most popular residential areas, for one because traffic is limited. Professor Reinhard Baumeister wrote an expertise which became the basis for the draft urban development plan.

He rejected the grid plan and conceived instead a network of curving streets into which asymmetrical building complexes could fit. The four storey blocks of flats are similar in their typology to those of other city districts but feature special architectural details. Those built prior to 1900 are in the style of late historicism, those in the district's western section are more greatly influenced by Jugendstil.
