All-day school

The expansion of all-day schools in Hesse has been taking place since the 2002/03 school year. All-day provision at schools is being continuously expanded.

All-day school

There are all-day profiles for all-day schools in Hesse (elementary school and secondary schools with lower secondary level).

Schools with all-day programs (profile 1)
Schools with all-day programs (profile 2)
All-day schools (profile 3)
Pact for all-day education

The profiles are described in the "Quality framework for all-day schools", which is part of the current "Guidelines for all-day schools in Hesse in accordance with Section 15 of the Hessian Schools Act". Common to the schools of all three profiles is the provision of a hot lunch and the availability of age-appropriate common rooms and recreation rooms. Play and rest facilities are further prerequisites for inclusion in the state's all-day program.

Schools with all-day programs (profile 1)

Schools with all-day programs (profile 1) offer homework supervision, support measures and extended elective and leisure activities on at least three days of the week until 2:30 pm. The offer can be limited to certain year groups. Participation in the additional offers is voluntary for the pupils. However, once parents have registered, participation is compulsory for the registration period.

Schools with all-day programs (profile 2)

Schools with all-day programs (profile 2) offer a reliable program five afternoons a week. In addition to compulsory lessons, remedial courses, elective courses, work groups and projects that supplement and extend lessons, supervision of homework and quiet work as well as participation in open sports and play groups are guaranteed. Lesson times and the alternation of educational and leisure activities can be arranged within the school. Childcare is generally available from 7.30 am to 4 or 5 pm.

All-day schools (profile 3)

All-day schools (profile 3) offer compulsory afternoon lessons as well as various childcare options on five afternoons per week. Lessons usually take place reliably from 7.30 am to 4 or 5 pm. Participation in the additional activities is fully or partially compulsory for pupils. As soon as parents have registered their children for voluntary activities, attendance is compulsory for these courses and projects. Remedial courses, elective courses and work groups that supplement and extend lessons, supervision of homework and quiet work as well as participation in open sports and play groups are all part of the offer. Lesson times and the rhythmic alternation of educational and leisure activities are regulated in detail by the school.

Expansion of all-day schools in Hesse

The expansion of all-day schools in Hesse continues to be given high priority. The Hessian state government sees the expansion of all-day schools as a perspective for the future. Pupils want more support from teachers, help with homework and additional challenges for learning, individual guidance and varied supervision in the afternoon too. Parents want their children to be encouraged and challenged and to receive the best possible education. They also expect the school to have reliable opening hours and offer their children a range of qualified activities. Teachers hope that more time for their pedagogical work will lead to greater success in the education, knowledge transfer and social learning of their pupils.
