St. Elizabeth's Church was consecrated on 28 March 1936. The architect was master builder Wahl, a government official. Thanks to the steel structure used at that time, a large bright room with agreeable proportions was built. Originally, the altar stood 13 steps high and the congregation sat where the organ is now. Over this hung a painting of the Risen Christ, the Ruler of all. In 1989/90 structural alterations were made to the church by the architect Klaus-Dieter Wolf. The altar and Crucifixion scene by the Munich artist Hubert Elsässer now form the focal point. The chancel and the body of the church are linked by the large candelabra. This expresses the idea taken up again by the Second Vatican Council of making a joint pilgrimage to God. Streams of water flow from the altar and the ambo. The Crucifixion scene shows clearly that our lives lead us to resurrection through the suffering that we experience.
