A chapel in Frauenstein is first mentioned in the 14th century. In the 18th century, the church of St. George and St. Catherine was the closest house of God for Wiesbaden Catholics in the Wiesbaden diaspora. A bell tower (with four bells) was added in 1953; the parish church was renovated in 1989/90. The old Communion pew forms a link to the new pews. The coat of arms representing the marriage of the donors (Anton Joseph von Sohlern and his wife Salome Scherer von Hohenkreuzberg) is depicted in the centre of the Communion pew. The other carvings show grapes and grapevines. The Pietà niche, which was newly created in 1990, holds a representation of the Virgin Mary mourning over the dead body of Jesus, carved by an unknown master out of lime-tree wood some 500 years ago and later brought from St. Catherine's Chapel to the parish church. The cross on the north wall of the nave was created in about 1510. The pulpit, which used to be in St. Aegidius' Church in Hadamar and was made about 1660, is also worth mentioning. It is decorated with a grapevine with garlands of fruit (late 17th to late 18th century).

Points of interest

  • Old organ from Eberbach Monastery
  • Ambo (lectern) and altar were designed and executed by the South German artist Hubert Elsässer
  • The old high altar (12th century) is probably the table of the high altar from Eberbach Monastery, which came to Frauenstein after the monastery was dissolved in 1806
