Worth knowing

A number of festivals dominate the city’s schedule of events, perhaps the most famous being the Jazz Festival held every year in July.

Wiesbaden’s twin town also has an outstanding reputation as a cultural and music city. Since 1967, the Montreux Jazz Festival has been held every year, and there are also the Montreux Choral Festival and the "Nuits du Jazz de Chernex".

The famous rock group Queen worked in Montreux for many years, where they owned the Montreux Mountain Recording Studios, located in the newly rebuilt Casino since 1975. The old Casino had burned down completely in 1971 during a Frank Zappa concert – an event that inspired Deep Purple’s world hit "Smoke on the water".
