Worth seeing

One of Spain’s most beautiful coves, three city beaches, the charming old town, and the harbour are just a few of San Sebastián’s attractions.

The Basque city San Sebastián is by many considered the tourist capital of the Basque region. The city is located on one of the world’s most beautiful coves, La Concha, and has three city beaches (La Concha, Zurriola, and Ondarreta). Especially Zurriola beach attracts surfers from all over the world.

San Sebastián is surrounded by mountains and lookout points (Igeldo, Urgull, Ulia, and Santa Clara Island), the river Urumea gives the city its structure.

Among the sights are the old town with its many Pintxo bars, as well as the City Hall and the old Casino, Buen Pastos Cathedral, Miramar Palace, the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, the Kursaal Congress Centre, and the “Peine del Viento” (Comb of the Wind) by the sculptor Chillida.

Like Wiesbaden’s twin town Wroclaw, San Sebastián was also named Culture Capital of Europe of 2016.
