Worth doing

Terrasson offers ideal conditions for a wonderful nature holiday, as it is surrounded by green wooded hills and situated amid famous French holiday destinations like Lascaux, Rocamadour, Collonges-la-Rouge, Pompadour, Les Eyzies-de-Tayac or Hautefort.

The local cuisine with its goose and duck liver specialities and all sorts of truffles is something you won’t want to miss. During the spring and summer months, numerous folklore festivals and events attract visitors from all around.

Perhaps the most unique experience awaits the visitor in “Les Jardins de l'Imaginaire“, the Gardens of Imagination: after being elected in 1989, the new mayor of Terrasson Pierre Delmon decided it was time to breathe new life into the city’s local politics and involve Terrasson more strongly in Perigord’s flourishing tourism industry. His idea was to establish modern gardens on a six hectare area adjacent to the old town. The project was advertised, and the American landscape architect Kathryn Gustafson was awarded the contract in 1992. Her gardens are unique not only in France but in all of Europe. Thirteen distinct gardens illustrate man’s relationship with the natural world he dominates. With great attention to detail, Gustafson used earth, water, air, and light as her design elements. Visitors can admire a sacred grove, fountains, a rose garden, a canal, a greenhouse, the axis of winds, and other forms of imaginative design.
