August 14–18: Rauenthal Parish Fair and Wine Festival
One of the oldest festivals in the Rheingau is undoubtedly the Rauenthal Church Fair and Wine Festival, which has been celebrated for centuries (!) under the linden trees surrounding the Catholic parish church of St. Antonius Eremita, with the first celebration taking place in 1491. A colorful program awaits you, featuring plenty of music, free carriage rides, and a festive outdoor Mass on Sunday. Highlights include the raising of the festival tree on Saturday and its auction on Monday. The Rheingau Wine Royalty traditionally make an appearance on Sunday afternoon and greet the audience from the stage by the church.
By the way: In 1867, Rauenthal wine became world-famous—at the Paris World’s Fair, a Rauenthal wine was crowned the “best wine in the world.”
August 14 to 23: Rheingau Wine Week
Every August, Wiesbaden’s city center is transformed into the “world’s longest wine bar” for ten days: During Rheingau Wine Week, over 100 booths and more than 1,000 wines and sparkling wines invite visitors to enjoy and celebrate around the Marktkirche, Schlossplatz, and Dern’sches Gelände. Five stages feature the finest live and lounge music.
August 30: Mill festival
At the Mill Festival on Sunday, August 30, starting at 11 a.m., you can stroll along the Elsterbach stream (Winkel, Johannisberg, Marienthal) and enjoy a wonderful program of music and food. Seven mills will open their doors—including the Krayers Mill (opens in a new tab), the Ankermühle (opens in a new tab), and the Schamari Mill (opens in a new tab).
