The Flötenweg winds through the vineyards for about ten kilometers. The trail begins in Hallgarten: From there, the route winds through the vineyards, past Kühn’s Mill (opens in a new tab) and the idyllically situated Vollrads Castle, all the way to Johannisberg Castle. 

The Flötenweg is easy to walk—though there are a few inclines along the way. The hike is especially beautiful in late summer and fall, when the leaves on the grapevines slowly change color and the vines are heavy with grapes.

Fancy a glass of Rheingau Riesling? You can either bring your own and enjoy it on one of the many benches or low walls, or have a chilled glass at a wine stand. The estate wine bar at Vollrads Castle (opens in a new tab) or the “Goetheblick” viewpoint (opens in a new tab) at Johannisberg Castle are particularly lovely spots.
