Repair, Give Away, or Lend—Sustainable Options in Wiesbaden
From the StopfBar to bookcases to repair guides—with these options in Wiesbaden, you can give your belongings a second life.
Repair & Rent
- The StopfBar (opens in a new tab) at Kunstraum E14 on Eltviller Straße is an open clothing repair workshop. Master tailor Birgit Reiman and social designer Jan-Micha Gamer will show you how to darn, patch, or embellish items using visible mending. The next session is on September 30 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. No registration required—it’s donation-based!
- Once a month, at the Repair Café (opens in a new tab) in the Umweltladen on Luisenstraße, you have the opportunity to have broken everyday items repaired for free—the next session is on September 26.
- Borrow or rent instead of buying—that’s the basic idea behind the Repair, Rental, and Secondhand Goods Guide. The database contains over 1,000 addresses for repair shops, rental service providers, and secondhand and antique dealers in Wiesbaden and the Rheingau-Taunus district.
- Want to transport something with a cargo bike or just give one a try? The Umweltladen lends out an e-cargo bike for free up to twice a month for one to two days.
- At the city and neighborhood libraries, you can borrow a wide variety of media or access digital resources with a valid library card. Exciting Initiatives:
- Community-Supported Agriculture (opens in a new tab) (CSA) was formed to produce food in a regionally and environmentally sustainable way. At the farm in Gibb, members work together to grow vegetables, tend the fields, weed, and, of course, harvest. Each member receives a share of the harvest every week—it always includes whatever is in season at the time. The next farm tour (opens in a new tab) is on September 26 at 4 p.m.
- Giving things a second chance—that’s what “Dreh Dein Ding” (opens in a new tab) in Wiesbaden is all about. The initiative highlights what the city has to offer—places to repair, swap, borrow, pass on, and shop for secondhand items.
