Picnic happiness

Whether in the middle of the countryside, with a view of the city or right by the water - here you will find the most beautiful places in and around Wiesbaden as well as (delicatessen) stores for delicious food to go.

Picnic

The most beautiful picnic spots in and around Wiesbaden:

  • The classic among all picnic spots: the Neroberg! The best way to get there is to take a romantic ride on the Nerobergbahn up our favorite local mountain and find a nice spot with a view of the city.
  • The sprawling Kurpark, with its beautiful trees, is also perfect for a picnic in the great outdoors. It becomes especially romantic if you combine it with a boat ride on the Kurpark pond.
  • With its picturesque waterfront promenade and the green spaces around the basin, Schiersteiner Harbor is practically made for a picnic by the water.
  • A picnic with a view of Biebrich Castle becomes a little journey back in time against this backdrop. Thanks to the park’s spaciousness, everyone can find their own spot here. Alternatively, you can also spread out your blanket by the small pond with a view of Moosburg.
  • The idyllic Rettbergsaue, with its own sandy beach, is accessible via the Tamara (opens in a new tab) passenger ferry, which runs from April to September (Tuesday through Sunday) between Biebrich (Rheingaustraße pier) and Schierstein Harbor (pier opposite Schiffergasse 25).

The most beautiful picnic spots in the Rheingau:

  • If you take a stroll along the towpath from Walluf Harbor, you’ll find plenty of small sandy coves where you can have a picnic right by the water.
  • The Bubenhäuser Höhe in Rauenthal is the perfect spot for a picnic with a view of the rolling hills of the Rheingau. It’s ideal for anyone who doesn’t like sitting on the ground, as there are plenty of tables and benches with panoramic views.
  • A picnic in Frauenstein is especially romantic during cherry blossom season. But even at other times of the year, you can enjoy a lovely break around the Goethestein at one of the many tables and benches!

Delicious picnic food:

  • On Wednesdays and Saturdays, you’ll find plenty of stalls at the weekly market (opens in a new tab) on the Dern’schen Gelände where you can stock up on everything from vegetables and olives to spreads and cheese (for example, for your picnic in the -> Kurpark).
  • On Taunusstraße, Sapori D'Italia (opens in a new tab) offers the best of Italy (for example, for your picnic on the -> Neroberg).
  • For a French-style picnic, you’ll find everything you need at the delicatessen Chez Madlen (opens in a new tab)—including wines and freshly made sandwiches (for example, for your picnic in the -> Kurpark).
  • At Frau Kreuter, (opens in a new tab) Levantine and French delicacies—also available to go—await you (for example, for your picnic in the -> Kurpark).
  • If you’d like to picnic in Biebrich Castle Park or at Schierstein Harbor, stop by the Trimonzium (opens in a new tab) deli first.
  • Just visiting the Italian supermarket Celpro (opens in a new tab) feels like a vacation. At the fantastic fresh food counter, you’ll find everything you could wish for—and more!

Have a picnic organized ;-)

Pack up, set off, and enjoy—that’s the motto for these picnic tours, with all the good things in life in your luggage (opens in a new tab). With bags or backpacks generously stocked by wineries and hotels, you’ll discover the most beautiful spots in the Rheingau. The tour includes wine and plenty of information about the culture, viticulture, and the region and its people.
