There were no birds in Auschwitz

With "There were no birds in Auschwitz", we recommend a very unusual and deeply moving reading concert that tells the story of concentration camp inmate Hermann Reineck.

Monika Held and Gregor Praml show how impressively text and music can convey history in a performance in which reading, music and original sounds intertwine. The basis is the novel "Der Schrecken verliert sich vor Ort" by Monika Held, which was created in collaboration with filmmaker Mathias Hundt. The texts read by Monika Held and Gregor Praml's double bass compositions with loops & effects are accompanied by the very personal original sounds of contemporary witness Hermann Reineck, from whose survival story Held's novel and the character Heiner were created.
In this way, the program "There were no birds in Auschwitz" contributes to preserving the memories of the dwindling number of contemporary witnesses to the Holocaust.
