"filmreif" Features on a Festival Tour
We are very pleased that four short films from our “filmreif” film project have been selected for two German film festivals: “Geschwister,” “Echt!?” and “Echt Ida” will screen in mid-August 2026 at the Open Air Filmfest Weiterstadt. In September, “Trust the Fall” and “Echt Ida” will also be shown at the REC Film Festival in Berlin. The films were made during the Easter and summer breaks in 2024 and 2025. The “filmreif” project is organized by Medienzentrum Wiesbaden e.V. in cooperation with the Office for Social Work: wi&you “Schöne Ferien.”
“The fact that several of our films are being shown at these festivals is a wonderful recognition of the creativity and dedication of the young filmmakers,” says Maria Weyer, deputy executive director and head of the Media Education Department at the Medienzentrum Wiesbaden. The short films, each about five to seven minutes long, were based on ideas from the children and teenagers. With the support of several film professionals, these ideas were developed into a screenplay and then filmed collaboratively. The participants in “filmreif” handle the directing, filming, acting, sound, and editing themselves.

Premiere of the "Filmreif" Productions in 2026

The “making-of” videos will also be presented there, offering a good insight into the production process. The young filmmakers will be in attendance at the premiere, which will last about one hour.
