Here you will find information on the possible integration of existing private devices into the project and central device management.
Are you the parent of an eligible child at a school in Wiesbaden? Do you already have a fairly new tablet that your child will use at school and therefore do not want to purchase another iPad? Then please read the following information carefully, which will show you how you can integrate your existing iPad into the central device management system, which also contains the other tablets in this project.
What are the reasons for integration into central device management (MDM)?
The device can be used on an equal footing with other iPads in the school, as it is configured similarly to other school iPads.
Access to the school WLAN is possible without having to know the access data. The device automatically logs in to the school.
Apps licensed by the school or the country can be installed on the device.
Important settings for device security and data protection are made centrally on the device.
The device can also be used without an Apple account if desired.
Parents and children can contact the media center's support team if they have any questions or problems (see article Support)
The integration itself and the license costs for device management are free of charge for parents. The costs are borne by LHW. The same applies to support via the media center.
What does integration into the MDM mean in practical terms?
The media center support team will provide the iPad with a profile. The profile specifies certain settings. The support team can also install apps. All of this happens automatically via WLAN, without the need for support staff to have the device in their hands. Even if the device is reinstalled, it is automatically included in the management system again.
The media center can do this (examples):
Determine the approximate location of the device using the IP address. However, it is not possible to determine the exact location as you know it from navigation apps, as the media center cannot access the GPS location.
View the list of all installed apps, but not their content.
Install apps on the device and delete them again.
Define settings for security reasons or educational considerations and according to school specifications.
Enter the access data for the school WLAN without the child being able to see the password.
Lock the device in the event of loss or theft.
The media center cannot do this (examples):
View content or data from apps.
View files on the device, neither names, numbers nor their contents.
View the browser history.
Remotely control the device or view the screen.
Activate the camera or microphone.
View the exact location (GPS tracking).
View your Apple account, if you have one. The media center cannot delete apps that were installed with your Apple account.
The device is new enough (the supported model list can be found in the contact form).
The device should be reset to the factory settings and the activation lock removed.
If an activation lock has been set up, the access data for your Apple account must be known.
If the device is not in the delivery state, all data should be backed up, e.g. in the iCloud or manually. It is essential to reset the device during integration, as this will delete all data, apps and settings! Note: Do not back up your data as a complete backup to a PC or Mac. In most cases, a complete backup cannot be restored to a managed device.
Procedure / What do interested parents have to do?
Fill out the following online form.
An employee of the media center will contact you to arrange an appointment. The integration can only be carried out on site at the media center. The media center is located in the same building as the city library in the pedestrian zone and can be reached through the same entrances (Hochstättenstraße 6-10).
You must give us permission to do this by signing the agreement below. Please read this carefully in advance. It will be signed during the appointment.
Ideally, the integration will only take a few minutes. In the meantime, you can make yourself comfortable in our reception lounge with a coffee.
There is a 30-day period during which you can immediately remove the device from the administration at any time. After this period, only employees of the media center can remove the device from the administration.
If the iPad is to be removed from device management again, please inform the Media Center in writing, e.g. by e-mail or contact form. To remove the device, it must be reset to the factory settings. Further details can be found in the written agreement.
