Who doesn't dream of one day turning their long-cherished dream into reality? For the Swiss Urban Kaufmann, this was the vision of owning his own winery. Until 2013, he was the owner of one of the most successful Appenzeller cheese dairies. For years, he traveled through the best European wine-growing regions to find the ideal place for his dream. He found what he was looking for in the Rheingau. Together with Eva Raps, who managed the business of the VDP for many years, he is now implementing his vision of Rheingau wine step by step at the Urban Kaufmann winery. The new Hattenheim team is not only dedicated to the Rheingau classic Riesling, but also to the Pinot family around Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris and especially Pinot Noir, with which the winery has been causing a stir in Germany for over twenty years. The grapes from the best vineyards in famous single vineyard sites such as the classified Hattenheimer Wisselbrunnen are grown organically and form the perfect basis for an interpretation of Rheingau wine culture that is independent in the best sense of the word.
