For a leisurely breakfast, there are numerous cafés in the city center, such as the traditional Café Maldaner (opens in a new tab), which is also affectionately known as "Wiesbaden's living room" (closed until August 12), the French café "Les Deux Messieurs" (opens in a new tab) or "The Room by Tiff" (opens in a new tab), which is a café and concept store in one.

Fancy a good coffee? At KAUFMANNS Kaffeerösterei (opens in a new tab) am Markt, you can enjoy a cup with a view of the Marktkirche. The Maldaner Coffee & Culture Lab (opens in a new tab), tucked away in a backyard in the lively Westend, also serves excellent coffee. At the traditional company Hepa Kaffee (opens in a new tab), you can even have a coffee blend roasted to suit your preferences.

Wilhelmstrasse, or "Rue" as the locals call it, invites you to stroll and browse with its individual stores. Don't miss: the praline and chocolate manufacturer Confiserie Kunder (opens in a new tab)! The family business, which has been around since 1898, is particularly famous for its pineapple tarts.

The Kurhaus is the town's landmark - a real gem that was commissioned by Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1904. He himself was present at the opening in 1907 and called it "the most beautiful Kurhaus in the world". Be sure to take a look inside the majestic foyer and stroll through the English-style Kurpark with its "Nice Square" (Wiesbaden was also known as the "Nice of the North") and beautiful old trees.

You don't get this opportunity very often: on August 9 and 16, as part of the Rheingau Wine Week, you can climb the tower of the market church on Schlossplatz from 2 to 5 p.m. and enjoy a magnificent view over Wiesbaden and the Wine Week.

Here, too, you are spoiled for choice - to name just a small selection: At "Benner's Bistronomie" (opens in a new tab) in the Kurhaus, you can enjoy fine cuisine in an equally fine atmosphere. At "Butta La Pasta Rosa" (opens in a new tab), Italian Rosa Bertram will spoil you with her daily freshly prepared pasta at the end of Langgasse, and at the small restaurant "Hindukusch (opens in a new tab) " you can enjoy authentic Afghan cuisine.

Even today, many a Wiesbadener swears by the healing powers of the Kochbrunnen water - try a sip (don't forget your mug)! The 67 degree Celsius hot spring on Kranzplatz is the most famous of the city's 26 thermal springs and supplies around 350 liters of water per minute. Incidentally, Wiesbaden's thermal springs are among the hottest in Europe.

Nearby is the "Kochbrunnenspringer", where the sinter deposits can be clearly seen. In Roman times, these were processed into "Mattiac balls" and used to dye hair.

It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the city center along the Nero Valley to Wiesbaden's "weirdest landmark": the Nerobergbahn (opens in a new tab) - where you can also get married - takes you up Wiesbaden's popular local mountain every 15 minutes from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and has been doing so since 1888. The ride takes three and a half minutes.

The technology is remarkably simple: the carriages are connected to each other by wire ropes. The downhill carriage is weighted down with up to 7,000 liters of water, pulling the lighter carriage up to the top station. At the end of the ride, the water is pumped up from below and the game starts all over again.

Once on the Neroberg, the view from the Löwenterrasse over Wiesbaden, a visit to the Russian Orthodox Church with its five golden onion domes and a glass of wine with a fantastic view in the Chateau Néro (opens in a new tab) are well worthwhile. The Opelbad (opens in a new tab) is also worth a visit - it's all about "swimming with a view"!

Take a leisurely stroll along Taunusstraße with its numerous antique stores back to the city center. Take a stroll along Nerostraße with its pretty cafés, wine bars and pizzerias and end the day in Mauergasse or Obere Webergasse, which are popular meeting places for locals with their wine bars and pubs.
