Art Nouveau at the Museum Wiesbaden

29 June 2019

Art Nouveau was a revolutionary art movement. It demanded a modern style of art in keeping with its own time and it took its themes from nature and the pictorial language of human beings in love and in pain. Around 1900, however, art also embodied the sombre sides of existence expressed in Symbolism with its dark aesthetics of decay. The aim was to create a Gesamtkunstwerk that would remove the boundaries between life and art.

From 29 June 2019, Museum Wiesbaden will present the outstanding Ferdinand Wolfgang Neess collection as a permanent exhibition showcased in the south wing of the museum. Representing a cross-section of all genres of Art Nouveau, more than 700 objects are being made accessible to the general public for the first time. In addition, this collection will put Wiesbaden on the map of Art Nouveau cities of Europe.
