Twin Town - 2019 Istanbul-Fatih, Turkey
Wiesbaden is celebrating a premiere at the twin city stand at this year’s Rheingau Wine Festival. For the first time, Wiesbaden’s most recent twin city, Fatih, will be presenting Turkish wines there.
Wines from the Turkish Suvla winery will be on offer. Founded in 2003, it is located close to Suvla Bay on the north Aegean coast of the Gallipoli peninsula. Surrounded by pines, with a scent of resin and lavender and the sea air, this region is now one of the most important winegrowing areas in Turkey. The argillaceous soil and the northwest wind form a microclimate that provides the perfect conditions for maturing premium-quality grapes.
The 60-hectares of organic vineyards belonging to the Suvla winery boast a wide range of grapes. Exquisite cuvées are produced from white grapes such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Roussanne and Marsanne. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Grenache Noir, Petit Verdot and Pinot Noir are used for the red wines. The winery also works with local grape varieties such as Kınalı Yapıncak and Karasakız.
The young wine brand, Suvla, which has already taken part in local and international competitions, has been awarded first prize several times. The Suvla winery also anticipates receiving “organic” certification with the “Good Agricultural Practices – G.A.P.” certification, which will be awarded in the near future. Thanks to their diversity, Suvla wines are suitable for all tastes.
