What are Hiwwel tours?
The 14 circular hiking trails wind through the most beautiful landscapes of Rheinhessen—over rolling hills, through vineyards, and past small villages. The highlights are the sweeping views of the Rheinhessen Plateau that open up time and again. Why “Hiwweltouren”? “Hiwwel” is the Rheinhessen word for “hill”—Rheinhessen is known as the “Land of 1,000 Hills.”
What I love: The distances are perfect for a weekend hike, and the trails are so well-marked and varied that you’ll never get bored. Don’t forget your picnic!

The Neuborn Hiwweltour is a truly relaxing and very idyllic hike right in the heart of nature. The trail winds through small woods, past springs, ponds, and community gardens with fruit trees and chickens, then back through vineyards and fields. There’s plenty of parking at the hiking lot, and the loop trail is perfectly signposted.
Highlights include the Burgundy Tower—named after the French partner region of Burgundy—with a view over Rheinhessen, and the enchanting village of Rommersheim with its half-timbered houses.
At the end of the tour, you can refresh yourself at the Waldwirt restaurant—which features a beer garden in the middle of the forest and rustic cuisine.
