Flashback - film away!

As part of the series "Flashback - Film ab!", the Caligari will be showing "The Zone of Interest" on Tuesday, June 10, at 3.30 pm. The film, which has won two Oscars, provides a gruesomely sober depiction of the everyday life of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss and his family.

Movie scene "The Zone of Interest"

Jonathan Glazer's German-language adaptation of Martin Amis' novel "The Zone of Interest" shows the horrors of the Holocaust from the perspective of Rudolf and Hedwig Höss, the commandant of Auschwitz, and his family. In their "picture-book home", they lead an extremely privileged life wall to wall with the extermination camp. Rudolf Höß calls his wife the "Queen of Auschwitz". However, while the novel also deals with the horrors of the camp, the film shows everyday life during the Second World War almost exclusively from the perspective of the Höß family. How Hedwig tends the rose garden, receives visits from her mother, raises the children and looks after her husband's guests. An extraordinary, oppressive film.
