The media center operates a cloud service for schools sponsored by the state capital of Wiesbaden based on Nextcloud.
Schools sponsored by the state capital of Wiesbaden can use a cloud solution based on the open source software Nextcloud. The central platform is operated by the media center on its own servers on site in Wiesbaden.
The following functions are currently available:
Personal file storage
Sharing files and folders
Creation and collaborative editing of Office documents with the integrated Office solution in the browser
Personal and group calendars
Form and survey tool
Personal and group task list
Internal messenger for text messages including attachments
Further functions can be installed in the future.
Which functions a school would like to use is determined in consultation with the media center.
Access
All teachers and students of a school can use the Nextcloud, as well as other school employees if necessary. Access is via a school-specific login page, which is always structured according to the pattern [school abbreviation]-cloud.wiesan.de. Free apps for Windows, MacOS, Linux, iOS and Android are also available for the central function of saving and exchanging files, which can also be used.
The media center provides its own SSO solution for authentication and can integrate both CSV imports and domain structures.
Onboarding / How to start
If a school is interested in Nextcloud, please fill out the onboarding document below and send it to us.
Schools may mandatorily implement Nextcloud as a digital application in accordance with § 83a HSchG through appropriate board resolutions. Use is mandatory for teachers, students, and, where applicable, parents. Use is then no longer based on voluntary consent and cannot be refused. Users must simply be informed of the terms of use and privacy policy; the links below can be used for this purpose, though the Nextcloud interface also automatically displays this information upon login.
For all cases in which a school has not made Nextcloud use mandatory, you will find a template below for the voluntary consent of those affected.
