Cinéfête

Once a year, the media center acts as a local cooperation partner for the nationwide school film festival Cinéfête, which shows a series of feature films and documentaries in the original French.

Cinéfête 2026

During the week of October 26–30, we will be screening the Cinéfête films at the Caligari FilmBühne.

The introductory event will take place on September 14 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the Wiesbaden Media Center. Julie Matthieu will then present the new Cinéfête program in French and with great enthusiasm.

This event is accredited as teacher training by the Hessian Teachers’ Academy. Students are also warmly welcome.

AG Kino, in collaboration with the Institut français Deutschland, has once again put together a diverse program featuring films for all grade levels. We are currently screening the films. We will announce the program with the exact showtimes at a later date.

Objective

Cinéfête aims to ...

to make it possible to experience French lessons with a difference, to arouse interest in French cinema and to encourage students to engage with a variety of topics.

Cinéfête is ...

a school film series organized nationwide by the French Embassy in cooperation with the AG Kino Gilde e.V.

a package of eight French films in the original version with subtitles, which tours German cinemas for a year and can be used by cinema operators in school screenings for children aged 8-18.

a resource created for French lessons that accompanies the preparation and follow-up of the films with regard to linguistic and intercultural issues. The materials also offer detailed sequence analyses to raise awareness of the artistic form.

Teacher training courses will be held to accompany the festival.

Cinéfête at the Caligari FilmBühne

We have been organizing Cinéfête at the Caligari FilmBühne since 2003.

We do this in close cooperation with various schools in Wiesbaden, the Institut Français in Mainz and the Deutsch-Französische Gesellschaft e.V. in Wiesbaden.

In addition to the statutory age rating and the recommendation of the AG Kino Gilde, we also provide a separate age recommendation. We develop this together with teachers from various schools.

We usually organize a ninety-minute teacher training course at the Caligari FilmBühne shortly after the summer vacations. Here you can get to know excerpts from all the films in the current package. This will give you and your pupils a good basis for choosing the film(s) that are of most interest to you. Pupils are also very welcome to attend this training course!

At the beginning of November, we usually show each film at least once over five days, usually in three screenings in the morning and in the afternoon.
