In the main program of "Kino macht Schule", films are selected that are

• are generally new to the pupils, even if the films are older.
• touch the emotions of the pupils through their style, good script and convincing acting.
• take their audience seriously and therefore do not under or overtax them.
• can usually be prepared for and followed up before and after lessons with specially created material and work aids.
• contain topics relevant to the lesson that are entertaining.

In terms of genre, these can also be documentaries, but the majority are narrative films. Shortly before the summer vacations, various films are shown in the original language English, French or Spanish with German subtitles.

In order to find the films, around 60 children's and youth films are screened every year - at festivals, in cinemas and within the framework of various committees.

It is important that the films touch the audience - because only then do they create the ideal breeding ground for further discussion of their themes and the way they are made. Where it makes sense and is possible, experts are invited to be available for talks, questions and discussions after the film screening.

Due to extensive renovation work in the Caligari FilmBühne, we will not be able to offer a school cinema program in the Caligari FilmBühne until autumn 2025 due to the resulting increased noise pollution.

The French-language film festival Cinéfête is expected to take place at the Caligari FilmBühne with three screenings at the end of October and beginning of November. A training event with an overview of the program is expected to be offered in mid or late September.

In principle, the program will be published at the beginning of each new semester in the form of a flyer, which will be sent to schools and is also available in digital form. Admission is EUR 5.00 per pupil, 2 accompanying persons per class are admitted free of charge, or more if there is an increased need for supervision.

Special event for 100 or more pupils: EUR 5.00 per pupil. Two accompanying persons per class free of charge.

You are welcome to send us requests for special performances using the appropriate form on our homepage and we will try to accommodate them - depending on capacity. It is also worth taking a look at the program overview on our homepage, because there you will find special performances that have already been scheduled and are not included in the flyer. You can then register for these depending on seating capacity.
Please note that for special events, although you can choose the film title and date in consultation with us, other classes from other schools may also be able to attend. These are not exclusive events.

It is possible to make the films accessible with audio amplification/audio description. Please register at least three weeks before the screening!
