Earth Hour
On March 23, 2024, it was that time again: millions of people around the world switched off the lights for the international "WWF Earth Hour" to set an example for more environmental and climate protection.
For the 18th time, the lights were switched off all over the world on this day from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm. The aim is to set an example together for environmental and climate protection. The WWF wants to show that we need to take better care of our planet. This year's motto for the world's largest environmental and climate protection campaign was "Protect the climate, strengthen democracy - Earth Hour 2024". Many thousands of cities also took part and shrouded their most famous buildings in darkness, such as the Brandenburg Gate, Big Ben and the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.
The lights were also switched off completely in and around the RheinMain CongressCenter and the Kurhaus Wiesbaden for Earth Hour.
"Even though we always reduce the lighting in the RMCC and the Kurhaus to a minimum during non-event times, regardless of Earth Hour, we want to emphasize our commitment to this by participating in the world's largest environmental and climate protection campaign, which draws global attention to the need for sustainable use of resources," says Wiesbaden Congress & Marketing Managing Director Martin Michel, explaining the importance of the topic for Wiesbaden's event venues.
