A refreshingly different action-comedy: 93-year-old Thelma fell victim to a phone scammer who posed as her grandson. Now she’s determined to get her money back. Drawing on an incredible but true story about his own grandmother, director Josh Margolin delivers a lively reimagining of the genre, sending his extraordinary action heroine on a wild and energetic adventure through the criminal underworld of Los Angeles. On her daring manhunt, she employs all sorts of espionage techniques that, while no longer quite up to date, are still absolutely effective.
At the world premiere at Sundance, there was thunderous applause, both for the magnificent lead actress June Squibb, who performed many of her own stunts, and for the film itself, which won over audiences and film critics alike in the blink of an eye with its heartwarming humor and wonderful playfulness.
