The state capital of Wiesbaden awards a biennial grant in memory of the Wiesbaden painter and honorary citizen Christa Moering to support artists. First awarded in 2009, the grant is endowed with 10,000 euros and includes an exhibition at the Kunsthaus the following year. The theme of the 2020 Christa Moerings Scholarship was “Decor” and was awarded to Ankabuta. She presented a comprehensive body of work, the new pieces of which were created during the scholarship period.

Ankabuta was born in South Korea in 1980, where she first attended Chung-Ang University’s School of Fine Arts before going on to study at the renowned Kunsthochschule Kassel under Professor Dorothee von Windheim and Professor Urs Lüthi. She lives and works in Wiesbaden. The multi-award-winning artist already has a prolific exhibition record and maintains an international focus. She is equally at home in the media of painting, drawing, object art, installation, and performance, mastering the craft of bizarre miniatures as well as large-scale installations. In her delicate wire mesh works, she recreates well-known buildings from Wiesbaden, and portraits of her young son are also on display.
