From August 27 to November 8, 2026, the Kunsthaus Wiesbaden will present the exhibition “Grace Schwindt — Autumn Leaves (Witnesses).” “Autumn Leaves” is a version of a multi-part work adapted for the Kunsthaus, which is now being presented in Germany for the first time: “Witnesses (Bones, Leaves and other creatures)” was created in 2022 for the Busan Biennale in South Korea. In this work, London-based and internationally active artist Grace Schwindt explores the history of a labor camp in Busan where severe human rights violations took place—violations that have still not been adequately addressed to this day. The stories of a survivor served as inspiration for the sculptures and wall tapestry that the Kunsthaus is exhibiting at the Kunsthalle. The sculptures allow viewers to experience, in a deeply moving way, both the vulnerability and the resilience of the human body and spirit.

During the Rhein-Main Dance Festival, Grace Schwindt’s “Movement Archive”—based on the diary of the Jewish German Caecilie Lewissohn—will also be performed by the Hessian State Ballet in the Aula exhibition space. The pianist lived in hiding in Berlin for five months during the Nazi regime. The exhibition is supported by the Hessian Cultural Foundation. A multifaceted accompanying program featuring performances and guided tours complements the exhibition.
