The exhibition introduced, for the first time, four internationally acclaimed, award-winning artists—Hannah Brinkmann, Tobias Dahmen, Nora Krug, and Birgit Weyhe—who use the medium of graphic storytelling to shed light on history. The focus was on fateful life journeys that remind us that the past is part of our present and highlight the importance of democracy.
The exhibition presented original drawings, sketches, and research materials. It also illustrated the artists’ very different aesthetic approaches and highlighted the creative process behind the comics as well as the possibilities of graphic storytelling.
The exhibition was curated by Jakob Hoffmann and presented on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of May 8, marking the end of World War II. Prof. Dr. Aleida Assmann served as patron.
It was supported by the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain, Demokratie leben in Wiesbaden, and the Heinrich Böll Foundation. In cooperation with the Jewish Community of Wiesbaden, Spiegelbild e.V., Buchhandlung Vaternahm, sensor Wiesbaden, Klingspor Museum Offenbach, and Turm zur Katz/Konstanz.
