November 28, 2026, 6:00 p.m.: Eight-string cello sounds with MarCelli
On Saturday, November 28, 2026, at 6 p.m., the Kunsthaus invites you to the concert “Eight-String Cello Sounds” featuring the MarCelli Duo.
Eight-string cello sounds
A multifaceted musical journey featuring original works for two cellos performed by the Duo MarCelli
. Beginning with a duet by Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, written entirely in the style of the French Rococo, the program continues with Romantic-era music by Friedrich August Kummer, a cellist of great renown in his day. A foray into the modern era leads to a short, subtle work by Paul Hindemith. Jean Baptiste Barrière’s (1707–1747) virtuoso masterpiece is a must-hear in this program. It was Barrière’s perfected playing that paved the way for the cello’s breakthrough in France, where the viola da gamba had previously dominated.
You can also look forward to a wonderful selection of ten duos by the German-Russian composer Reinhold Moritzewitsch Glière. These late-Romantic pieces are characterized by their lyrical, folkloric, and almost impressionistic nature. The “Arioso” from Julius Klengel’s Suite for Two Cellos will provide a calm, heartfelt conclusion.
Refreshments will be served starting at 5:00 p.m. by the catering service of the Theater im Pariser Hof
Admission is free—donations for the musicians are welcome!
