Favorite places in Wiesbaden: Manuela Griech-Winter - Warmer Damm
The favorite place of Manuela Griech-Winter - an employee of the Tourist Service - is located directly in Wiesbaden's city center - it is the Warme Damm behind the Staatstheater.
The Warme Damm is framed by the Hessian State Theater, Wilhelmstraße and Villa Clementine. It is a park with a pond, beautiful trees and a spacious lawn for relaxing. It's my favorite place in Wiesbaden.
The Warme Damm lies at my feet during my daily work in the office. When I look out of the window, I can see the greenery of the park and the façade of Villa Clementine, Wiesbaden's house of literature. Not only award-winning authors, but also talented young artists enjoy being guests here in the stylish atmosphere of the historicist villa. Literary festivals are also held here.
The villa, built between 1877 and 1882, served as a residence for a Mainz factory owner and his wife Clementine. It later became part of a tragic story when the Crown Prince of Serbia, who lived in the villa with his mother after fleeing, was kidnapped by his father. In 1978, the novel "The Buddenbrooks" was filmed as a television series at Villa Clementine.
The view inspires my creative work and the Warme Damm serves as a place to take a lunch break and recharge my batteries. If you walk through the park along the winding paths, you can hear unusual birdsong from time to time. They are green collared parakeets that came to Wiesbaden in the 1970s. The pond provides a habitat for numerous water birds. Some of the trees growing here are very old. They also include rare trees such as witch hazel and ginkgo.
Once on the other side, you reach the Schiller monument and the front of the Hessian State Theater.
With a little imagination, you can picture the spa guests strolling here and the carriages driving along Wilhelmstraße.
Incidentally, the name "Warmer Damm" has historical roots. It's hard to believe that this used to be the collection point for several streams and hot springs and that the area was swampy. A dam separated the area from the city. Today, everything runs underground. The transformation into a city park took place in the middle of the 18th century and the Warme Damm became the entrance to the spa facilities.
The Warme Damm serves as the venue for the annual harvest festival in the fall. A traditional festival that is particularly popular with families. Agricultural producers present and sell their products. There are numerous attractions for children.
Dear listeners, if you ever come to Wiesbaden, take a stroll through the Warme Damm and enjoy the greenery of this and many other parks in Wiesbaden.
