(Air-conditioned) museums
The two "big" museums, the Museum Rheinhard Ernst (mre) and the Museum Wiesbaden, as well as numerous other museums such as the "frauen museum wiesbden" and the "sam" invite you to enjoy wonderful and cool visits even at the height of summer.
Museum Wiesbaden
Enthusiasm for the extensive Art Nouveau exhibition in the air-conditioned Museum Wiesbaden continues unabated: Now in its fifth year, the museum presents a remarkable Art Nouveau collection that brings the lifestyle of the fin de siècle to life. The F.W. Neess collection, consisting of over 500 objects, is characterized both by the exceptional quality of the works and their great art-historical significance. Furniture, glass, ceramics, lamps, paintings and silver are united as a complete work of art.
In the current special exhibition "Honey yellow - the bee in nature and cultural history", everything revolves around the bee, its honey and the relationship between humans and bees.
Since last year, the museum café has been shining in a new guise and with a new offer: the traditional Wiesbaden company "Trüffel Feinkost" now runs the "Trüffel Museumscafé" and offers you a selection of large and small dishes.
Would you like to take a relaxed look around the museum? Every first Saturday of the month you get free admission.
Museum Reinhard Ernst (mre)
Last summer, the Museum Reinhard Ernst opened on Wilhelmstrasse: a state-of-the-art, air-conditioned museum with over 860 paintings and sculptures from the field of abstract art. On display here are loans from museums and private individuals from all over the world as well as the collection of the eponymous entrepreneur Reinhard Ernst. The exhibition focuses on German and European post-war art, Japanese art and American Expressionism. Reinhard Ernst was able to win over the internationally renowned architect Fumihiko Maki for the design of the museum with its bright, friendly atmosphere and the fully glazed, open-plan atrium.
Helen Frankenthaler. Move and Mak
The special exhibition "Helen Frankenthaler. Move and Make" can be visited until September 28. Today, Helen Frankenthaler is celebrated as a pioneering mediator between action painting and color field painting. She gave American post-war art a decisive turn.
