Fasanerie in transition: exhibition provides insights into the future
Since Friday, April 25, the exhibition "Fasanerie im Wandel" (Pheasantry in Transition) has been on display in the visitor center of the Wiesbaden pheasantry. Conceived and realized by graphic designer and illustrator Scarlet Arian, the exhibition focuses on climate protection and the preservation of endangered domestic animal breeds.
“With this exhibition, the Fasanerie impressively demonstrates how a park steeped in tradition can continually evolve to combine nature experiences, species conservation, and climate education in innovative ways,” explained Mayor Christiane Hinninger.
Titled “Climate Savers,” the exhibition illustrates the effects of climate change and presents concrete approaches to sustainable action, focusing on sustainable nutrition, climate-friendly gardening, and resource conservation. Visitors learn how they can actively contribute to climate protection through conscious consumer choices and sustainable lifestyles. This section of the exhibition was developed as part of the “Shaping Wiesbaden’s Climate Education Landscape” partnership between the Hessian Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the state capital of Wiesbaden.
The second focus of the exhibition is species conservation. As an “Ark Park,” the Fasanerie is committed to preserving endangered breeds of farm animals and raising awareness about the protection of biodiversity. The content ties directly into the Ark Park, where rare domestic animal breeds and their significance are presented in a child-friendly manner.
This is complemented by the adjacent community and farm garden, which demonstrates how climate-friendly gardening can be successfully practiced in a practical way. In this way, sustainable practices—from the barn to the seedbed—become vivid and tangible for explorers of all ages.
The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on their own behavior and recognize broader social connections—in line with Education for Sustainable Development, which is firmly anchored in the Fasanerie’s work.
This is a clear statement in favor of environmental awareness and sustainability.
Mayor HinningerThe Fasanerie is not only a place for recreation, but also an important educational site. With this exhibition, we promote environmental awareness and sustainability—not by lecturing, but by fostering a joy of discovery.
The exhibition is expected to be on view through the end of October, Thursday through Sunday, at the park's visitor center.

Designation as an Ark Park is recognition of breeding efforts involving endangered breeds. Compliance with the criteria is reviewed at regular intervals. Recognized farms and facilities are permitted to use the protected Ark logo for their own promotional purposes.
Background: The Ark Region
The Taunus Ark Region was recognized in 2022 by the Society for the Preservation of Old and Endangered Domestic Animal Breeds (GEH) as the third Ark Region in Germany overall. A second Ark Region recognized in Hesse is the Kellerwald Frankenau and Surrounding Area Ark Region. Within the Ark Region, several certified farms work together to integrate the old livestock breeds into agriculture as a form of living conservation, to conduct public outreach, and to reflect on the unique characteristics of these breeds.

The Society for the Preservation of Old and Endangered Domestic Animal Breeds (GEH) is dedicated to preserving endangered livestock breeds, which serve as an important genetic resource and hold cultural and historical value. Through extensive public outreach for active conservation, exhibitions, coordination of interested parties and breeders, data collection, and regional group activities, the association’s current 2,200 members work to preserve these old livestock breeds. The focus here is on extensive agriculture, nature conservation and landscape management, animal-welfare-oriented livestock husbandry, agricultural education, and the production of high-quality products. Close cooperation with associations and government agencies contributes significantly to the success of these conservation efforts.
