In Igstadt, too, as the communities grew during the early days of industrialization, the cemetery had to be moved from its usual central location around the church to the outskirts of town. The sandstone-clad slate rubble wall surrounding this newly developed area has been preserved on three sides. An inscribed stone at the southwest corner of this enclosure indicates the year 1857 as the date of construction and notes that the village was then under the administrative jurisdiction of Hochheim.

The fourth side was set back after World War I to make room for a deliberately simple war memorial. However, six large chestnut trees along the wall facing Medenbacher Straße still convey the peaceful and reverent atmosphere of a village cemetery typical of the region.
