The cemetery, which was relocated from Medenbach to its current site along the route of today’s country road in 1863, had to be resized again in 1962 during the construction of this bypass. The historic preservation authorities are concerned here exclusively with the war memorial erected here in 1923, which was relocated to the western extension of the cemetery, a move decided upon after World War I.

Even though the municipality was still independent at that time, the imposing form of this war memorial appears oversized to the observer, particularly within the overall layout of the Medenbach Cemetery, which is actually quite compact. A steeply rising altar superstructure (a so-called “ciborium”) built of slate rubble stone towers overhead, sheltering the stone sculpture of a grieving woman in a kneeling posture.
