Phantoms in the GFL2 — Eliminated in the playoff semifinals
The Phantoms competed in the German Football League 2 (GFL2) again during the 2026 season. And after a successful regular season—nine wins in ten games—they faced the Rostock Griffins in the playoffs. They lost that game 35–54, bringing the 2026 season to a close. The action continues in the spring of 2027.
Playoff Semifinals: Loss to the Rostock Griffins
The upset against the Rostock Griffins—a team packed with U.S. imports—didn’t materialize: In the semifinal for a spot in the GFL2 Bowl, the winner of which advances directly to the GFL, the Wiesbaden Phantoms lost 35–54. At halftime, the team led by Head Coach Patrick Griesheimer and Defensive Coordinator Chris Feck had to settle for a 28–35 deficit after a failed onside kick. Prior to that, they had managed to tie the game after trailing 14–28. This loss brings an end to a more than impressive season for the Phantoms, during which the Wiesbaden team, in its second GFL2 season following its promotion, confidently claimed the South Division title, boasted the best offense and defense in its group, and allowed the fewest points in the entire GFL2. The next chapter begins in the spring of 2027.
