Over the years, the state capital of Wiesbaden has developed into a hotspot for European circus arts. This is primarily thanks to the "European Youth Circus" arts festival, which has established itself as one of the most renowned festivals of its kind.
However, this established festival also has its origins in a small circus school in Wiesbaden, which was founded by the Romanian artist Joan Dumitru (1931 to 2015) and organized the "1st International Wiesbaden Circus Festival" in 1987, from which the European Youth Circus eventually emerged a few years later.
