Wiesbaden reads in summer
Under the motto "Democracy and Humanity", the reading festival "Wiesbaden Reads in Summer" is offering over 20 events and readings in some unusual locations until July 10.
For the fifth time, eight owner-operated, independent bookstores are hosting their joint reading festival, "Wiesbaden Reads in Summer." Some of the readings will take place in unusual locations throughout the city.
As part of the theme “Democracy and Humanity,” Michael Roth, among others, offers insights into the political arena in “Zones of Fear”; Sabine Königs and Hans Sarkowicz discuss Hesse; and Bachmann Prize winner Johanna Sebauer takes an ironic jab at the culture of outrage in “Das Gurkerl.” One evening is dedicated to "Film & Discussion" featuring Josephine Baker, global star and freedom fighter; on June 22, Cathryn Clüver Ashbrook will be a guest with her book "The American Wake-Up Call."
Part of the city - commitment to the city
The literature festival brings literature to life in unusual venues. For example, the opening reading will take place at the current exhibition at the Kunsthaus Wiesbaden, the Josephine Baker evening at the Caligari FilmBühne, and the Provence crime thriller will be held in the Apothecary Garden. Other venues include Café L’Art Sucré, Stoll Hörgeräte Akustik, and, for the first time, Piano Schulz.

About the reading festival
"Wiesbaden Reads" was founded at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic with the aim of supporting independent, local bookstores and, by extension, the retail sector. To the delight of Wiesbaden’s bookstores, similar initiatives have since been launched in other cities, including Frankfurt am Main.
