Museum Wiesbaden celebrates avant-garde expressionism
Two special exhibitions at the Museum Wiesbaden in 2025 and 2026, which are dedicated to famous artists as well as forgotten positions from the early 20th century, will give visitors something to look forward to in the fall.
The end of summer marks the start of this year's exhibition "Feininger, Münter, Modersohn-Becker . Or how art comes to the museum" (September 5 to April 26, 2026). The show presents the eventful history of the Museum Wiesbaden's collection of classical modernism, which has been built up over 100 years. Important expressionists such as Erich Heckel, Alexej von Jawlensky, Ida Kerkovious and Max Pechstein as well as rarely exhibited female artists such as Erma Bossi, Elisabeth Epstein and Ilona Singer are waiting to be discovered.
The avant-garde movement will also take center stage next year. Never before has an exhibition been dedicated to the female protagonists of the artists' group "Der Blaue Reiter", although personalities such as Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc have been discussed and researched in numerous exhibitions. The show "Die Blaue Reiterinnen" (23.10.2026-21.02.2027) takes a new look at the work of the female members of the Munich artists' group. The show starts with a large-scale traveling exhibition in Wiesbaden, with follow-up stops at the Paula Modersohn-Becker-Museum in Bremen, the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus and Kunstbau München as well as the Fondazione Marianne Werefkin in Ascona/CH.
