Poster women. Women's posters

The changing relationship between the poster as an artistic and creative medium and the role of women is highlighted in the exhibition "Plakatfrauen. Women's Posters", which can be seen at the Museum Wiesbaden until June 15, 2025.

Woman on poster
Walter Schnackenberg, Lena Amsel, 1918, color lithograph, printed by Kunstanstalt Oscar Conseé, Munich, poster collection Maximilian Karagöz.

A selection of posters from the collection of Wiesbaden-based private collector Maximilian Karagöz will be shown for the first time, focusing on the first peak period of German poster design (1900 to 1921). The spirit of the street is brought into the museum: on around 80 square meters, based on the striking character of advertising pillars and billboards, the exhibition shows the motif of women on posters, which are used in different facets of advertising, hung close together.

The exhibition aims to illustrate that there were outstanding female designers who have fallen into oblivion today. It shows the imbalance between male and female designers, which still has an impact today.

The exhibition was conceived jointly by the Museum Wiesbaden and co-curator Prof. Dr. Petra Eisele from the Gutenberg Design Laboratory at Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
