What does Europe mean? For some, it is a political project; for others, a home in diversity. Either way, Europe is not a given, nor is it an immutable asset. We must constantly work to build Europe. Right now, there is a great deal to be done.

The multimedia traveling exhibition “Tell Me About Europe!” showcased the passionate work of over fifty young Europeans from around forty countries. In more than thirty European languages, they interviewed representatives of their grandparents’ or even great-grandparents’ generation. As witnesses to Europe, these individuals recounted lives rich in experience and their work in politics, culture, and science, all interwoven with Europe. The result is a polyphonic panorama of the history and future of the European idea.

The central element of the exhibition was a series of striking portrait photographs by Berlin-based photographer Maximilian Gödecke. With the support of the Goethe-Institut, he traveled throughout Europe to bring these “witnesses to Europe,” their individual characters, and their environments to life. The photographs entered into a dialogue with the archive’s leitmotifs and key stories, offering diverse insights into the European space of memory.

A listening station further brought the diversity of languages and memories to life and invited visitors to engage personally with the European project.

The traveling exhibition was also presented during the Europe Weeks in the European city of Wiesbaden. The project to showcase the exhibition at the City Museum was developed in cooperation with the Youth Work and Wiesbaden International departments of the Office for Social Work. Numerous other institutions and stakeholders from the city’s civil society participated in the design and implementation of the diverse accompanying program.

Admission to the special exhibition at the City Museum was free.
