A new beginning in 1945 - Youth remembers 2025

2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Together with schools from Wiesbaden and the surrounding area, sam - Stadtmuseum am Markt is taking this important date as an opportunity to raise awareness of the end of the war in the city's society through an exhibition project.

What was everyday school life like in Wiesbaden after the end of the war? How did people from Wiesbaden experience the post-war period and how were refugees received? How was Wiesbaden High School established for the children of the US armed forces?

The pupils from Elly-Heuss-Schule Wiesbaden, Martin-Niemöller-Schule Wiesbaden, Gymnasium Taunusstein and Wiesbaden High School investigated these and other questions and, with their findings, not only draw attention to the difficult but significant early days of the Federal Republic, but also to topics that are still relevant today - albeit in different forms.

The results can be seen as an intervention on five roll-ups at sam from June 27, 2025 to January 11, 2026.
