The War Graves at the South Cemetery
The lecture “The War Graves at the Südfriedhof” as part of the Wiesbaden Cultural Initiative will take place on Thursday, November 5, 2026, starting at 6:00 p.m. at the sam – Stadtmuseum am Markt.
More than 2,000 people are buried in the war grave sections of Wiesbaden’s Südfriedhof—the city’s largest cemetery: men, women, and children from Germany and other countries who lost their lives during the world wars of the 20th century or as victims of Nazi tyranny.
The Hesse Regional Association of the German War Graves Commission has researched this significant site in Wiesbaden’s city history. In his lecture, Dr. Götz Hartmann, a historian and staff member at the Volksbund in Hesse, will present the war graves at the Südfriedhof and the stories of selected individuals buried there.
Admission to the lecture is free.
