Freudenberg Castle - a field of experience for the development of the senses and the mind - has been home to the educational center "Gesellschaft Natur & Kunst e.V." since 1994.
The philosophy at Freudenberg Castle is this: Experience is tied to the journey. That is the challenge. For centuries, we have been accustomed to replacing experience with knowledge. And we live in a world of substitutes. A world where nothing is replaced except life itself—that is, experience.

Permanent exhibition
The heart of the facility is a permanent exhibition, the "Field of Experience for the Development of the Senses and Thinking". At more than 100 stations, visitors are playfully introduced to natural phenomena such as balance, gravity, light and darkness, sound and resonance. Two of the highlights are the Dark Bar and the Dark Corridor, experiences that no visitor will forget in a hurry.
Café terrace
The café terrace on the south side of the castle offers a beautiful view of the park, forest, climbing hill and partner swing. The Dunkel-Bar and the Nacht-Mahl restaurant offer a journey to the senses. Here we eat and drink in complete darkness; when the eye sleeps, the world tastes of us. Service in the world of darkness is provided by visually impaired and sighted bartenders. The Dark Bar is part of the Field of Experience and welcomes guests during regular opening hours.
