Grooving Doctors Challenge
On Sunday, September 6, come enjoy the benefit concert featuring the "Grooving Doctors Challenge" at the Schlachthof. The proceeds will support the "Glücksfahrten" project for people with limited mobility.
Music helps! That’s exactly what the “rockers” of the doctors’ charity rock band “Grooving Doctors Challenge” have set out to do. Several times a year, the band performs for charity and donates all proceeds. Now they’re set to get the crowd fired up at the Schlachthof with their rocking riffs and groovy sound. They’ll be bringing along the greatest hits of classic rock.
About the Band
Eighteen years ago, a small group of doctors came together to revive a childhood dream and play rock music together. One of the founders, Helmut Golke, was diagnosed with life-threatening leukemia in January 2005 and survived only thanks to his indomitable will to live and medical care. Out of these circumstances, the “Grooving Doctors”—a recognized nonprofit organization—was born, with the stated goal of raising funds through rock concerts to financially support prevention, research, and care for sick people.
The network of supporters and fans that has developed as a result, along with the participation of musicians of varying degrees of prominence (such as Jürgen Zöller, drummer for BAP), reflects the significance of this charity project. After several lineup changes, the band reformed in January 2024. Joining the founding members—Helmut Golke, Hans-Jürgen Lange, Bernd Pfeffer, and Tobias Hampl—were saxophonist Christian Felke, drummer Thomas Ziegler, guitarist Sonja Schellenberg, bassist Wolfgang Wolf, and singer Betti Weishaupt. Michael Boddenberg and Marina Held have also been performing on stage with the band for several years. With this new lineup, a new chapter in the history of the Grooving Doctors has begun. With fresh energy and a new musical direction, the band has since been performing at concerts of all sizes for enthusiastic audiences.
The concert is supported by the Schlachthof Wiesbaden Cultural Center, Nassauische Sparkasse, and Lotto Hessen.
