Very British
The May concert with the Rhine-Main Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, May 30, at 5 p.m. in the garden of the historic Sonnenberg castle ruins is themed "Very British".
The Rhein-Main Symphony Orchestra invites you to an open-air concert in Wiesbaden. With over 70 musicians, the orchestra, well known in the region, will perform a concert in the style of London's "Last Night of the Proms" in the magnificent setting of the castle gardens of the historic Sonnenberg castle ruins, in keeping with the season.
The first part of the program features Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 5 in B flat major, which he wrote at the age of just 19. It is cheerful, light as a feather, and hopeful. One could almost say that it is the musical embodiment of good cheer. From the very first bar, his Symphony No. 5 captivates the listener with a world in which goodness and kindness reign supreme.
After the intermission, the traditional spectacle of the "Last Night of the Proms" will be brought to Germany. Every summer in London, a festival with numerous concerts takes place, known as the Promenade Concerts, or "Proms" for short. At the end of this concert series, the Royal Albert Hall hosts the final concert, the "Last Night," which is a crazy English spectacle that follows a set tradition with numerous rituals. Musically, the journey ranges from Elgar to Wood and Parry to Britten. The audience also has specific tasks and participates in the show!
